The Elizabethtown Nature Park is a 104-acre passive park designed for quiet enjoyment of open green space and natural surroundings. Visitors can walk, relax, and explore the area at their own pace, with walking trails that connect directly to the Freeman Lake Park trail system. The park also includes a pavilion and restrooms for convenience.
The Elizabethtown Nature Park is home to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and the Elizabethtown Veterans Tribute, a monument honoring all Hardin County veterans, living or deceased, who have served with honor and sacrifice. The tribute features a circular walkway with five life-size bronze sculptures, representing each branch of the U.S. military, offering a reflective space for remembrance and appreciation.
The Nature Park offers a scenic trail system designed for walking, running, and biking, with a mix of paved, gravel, dirt, and grass surfaces to suit a variety of users and activity levels. Portions of the trail wind through open pasture land, wooded areas, and along Freeman Creek, creating a peaceful setting that changes with the seasons.
The trail network also connects directly to the Freeman Lake Park trail system, allowing visitors to extend their route and explore even more of the city’s park system.
The Veterans Tribute at Elizabethtown Nature Park is a dedicated space honoring the service and sacrifice of all Hardin County veterans, living or deceased. The tribute features a circular walkway and five life-size bronze sculptures, each representing a branch of the United States military, creating a place for reflection, remembrance, and gratitude.
At the entrance to the tribute, community members may purchase a commemorative paver brick to honor a loved one who has served. These engraved pavers are installed along the walkway, providing a lasting and meaningful way to recognize military service.
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall is located within Elizabethtown Nature Park and serves as a place of reflection and remembrance. The wall is an 80 percent scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., measuring 360 feet long and 8 feet tall. It bears the names of more than 58,000 men and women who served in the Vietnam War, honoring both the living and the fallen.
The memorial was constructed through a community effort involving the Veterans Tribute Group, UAW/Ford Local 862, the City of Elizabethtown, and Bluegrass Tank, reflecting the city’s commitment to honoring those who served.
