The City of Elizabethtown has an ordinance regarding the burning of materials outdoors.  Be sure to review the Outdoor Burning Ordinance and email the Elizabethtown Fire Department to request a Burn Permit.  The Burn Permit rules are as follows:
  • No material other than wood that has been cut on the property may be burned.
  • Leaf piles are not authorized and not included in the permit.
  • No garbage may be contained within the burn pile.
  • No petroleum-based products may be used to start or accelerate the fire.
  • The fire must not be within 50’ of a structure or the edge of a woodland.
  • A competent adult must attend the fire at all times.
  • An adequate means of extinguishing the fire must be on hand at all times.
  • Should the fire be deemed a nuisance you will be required to extinguish it.
  • Weather conditions may void this permit.
  • In the event the fire or police departments require the fire to be extinguished, you must do so immediately.
  • The Fire Chief or his designee may grant or refuse permission to burn at their discretion.
  • Noncompliance with any of these requirements could result in a citation including fines being issued.
