The City of Elizabethtown has an ordinance regarding the burning of materials outdoors. Be sure to review the Outdoor Burning Ordinance and email the Elizabethtown Fire Department to request a Burn Permit. The Burn Permit rules are as follows:
- No material other than wood that has been cut on the property may be burned.
- Leaf piles are not authorized and not included in the permit.
- No garbage may be contained within the burn pile.
- No petroleum-based products may be used to start or accelerate the fire.
- The fire must not be within 50’ of a structure or the edge of a woodland.
- A competent adult must attend the fire at all times.
- An adequate means of extinguishing the fire must be on hand at all times.
- Should the fire be deemed a nuisance you will be required to extinguish it.
- Weather conditions may void this permit.
- In the event the fire or police departments require the fire to be extinguished, you must do so immediately.
- The Fire Chief or his designee may grant or refuse permission to burn at their discretion.
- Noncompliance with any of these requirements could result in a citation including fines being issued.
